Why Pray Anyway?

I don't know about you, but I find myself thinking about anything and everything all of the time.  Do you notice what an impact the things that you see and hear have on your thoughts?!  The culture we live in is dangerous and everything that enters our mind stays there.  It is really important that we don't become drawn in by the culture or the wicked ways of this world.  (Romans 12:2)

Something I've noticed is how my OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) has affected my thoughts. Even if they are uplifting and totally fine things to be thinking about, I obsessively think about them. For example, if I'm looking forward to a party or whatever, I find myself thinking about it all the time!  This is ok until it interrupts my time with the Lord and my prayers.  Prayer is such a significant and crucial part of our walk with Christ! Lately I've been thinking about three of the parts of prayer:

1.  When?  1 Thessalonians 5:6-18 "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
Simple answer: ALWAYS.  Be constantly in prayer! Personally, I've seen what a wonderful impact this has on my day!

2.  How?  Many of you may be familiar with the Lord's prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13.  Also in Matthew, chapter 66, verse 39 is a wonderful example of how we should pray.
"Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.  Yet not as I will, but as you will.'"  The humility that Jesus shows is a great perspective that we need to follow when praying.

3.  Why?  Finally we should be in constant prayer for a few reasons.  First, please know that by praying we aren't changing God's mind.  He is unchanging.  But by praying we are submitting ourselves to God and gaining a positive attitude.  Prayer humbles us and is effective tool.  "Therefore confess you sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16

  1. I actually really needed this because this is something I also struggle a lot with. I have been so encouraged by your blog and even though sometimes I don't take the time to leave a comment, I am so glad I followed and I would be so honored if you would check out my blog if you have a moment :)
